The world’s largest coin
Big Nickel is a 30 foot replica of a 1951 Canadian nickel, located at the Dynamic Earth science museum. It was originally the idea of Ted Szilva, a City of Sudbury fireman
Take a photo with the world’s largest coin! The twelve-sided nickel is located on a hill overlooking the west end Gatchell neighbourhood.
You can take the kids here as a destination for a photo opportunity – After your photo with ‘Big Nic’, take the kids for a walk down the Big Nickel Trail. The trail begins at the Big Nickel parking lot and zig zags down the side of the hill to the neighbourhood below.
If by chance the Big Nickel parking lot is closed, there is a 2nd entrance to use the trail
2nd Entrance
From downtown take Lorne St West. After the ‘killers crossing’ lookout for Quinn St and turn right. Parking is available at the playground. The entrance of the trail is located at the very end of Quinn St.
