How is a squash match played?
The matches are conducted as a ‘Best of 5 Games’ format, following international rules. For club play, the official ball is the Dunlop double yellow dot ball, and these balls will be readily available on each court during club nights.
What equipment do I need to play squash?
- A suitable squash racquet is the most important piece of equipment. Choose one that suits your playing style and skill level. Racquets come in various shapes, sizes, and weights, so it’s a good idea to try out a few to find the one that feels most comfortable for you.
- A squash ball. Squash balls come in different speeds, indicated by colored dots on the ball (typically red, blue, yellow). The color corresponds to the ball’s bounce and speed. Beginner players usually start with a red dot ball, while advanced players use double yellow dot balls. Make sure to select the appropriate ball for your skill level.
- Non-marking court shoes designed for indoor sports. These provide the necessary grip and won’t damage the court surface.
- Wear comfortable, breathable sports clothing that allows for ease of movement. Moisture-wicking materials are recommended to help manage perspiration.
- We strongly encourage all players to wear approved safety eyewear while playing. It is mandatory for players under the age of 18 to wear safety eyewear.
What level of skill is required to play?
The Sudbury Squash Club extends a warm welcome to individuals of all skill levels to join in on any of our programs.
