Saturday, August 17th, 8:30 a.m (bad weather date August 18th) on the traditional territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Lake Laurentian Conservation Area.
Hosted by Conservation Sudbury and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury. Total time of ~ 3 hours.
Cost: pay-what-you-can for boat rental, suggested amount $20.00. This will cover costs of boat rentals. [E-transfer to clsudbury@live.com with the comment ‘canoe’ or can bring cash the day of]. If you are bringing your own boat, there is no cost, but you are welcome to contribute to help cover costs for others.
-Meet at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet Parking lot at 8:30 a.m
-Participants will be able to choose from canoes and kayaks available or are welcome to bring their own canoe/kayak/paddle board/ect. Safety waivers for participants using the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area’s canoes or kayaks will need to be signed before the paddle begins
-Paddles and lifejackets will be provided with boat rentals (if you have a lifejacket of your own and are able to bring it, that would be greatly appreciated).
-Hoping to be on the water by 9am
-There will be some more experienced paddlers that will be able to provide some advice and guidance
-Part way through the paddle we will take a break and make space to reflect on the story of the land, the impacts of colonization, and our connection to the natural world and an appreciation of the flora and fauna within. Please feel free to bring snacks for this.
