Volunteer Choir
The Bel Canto Chorus is a volunteer choir consisting of 55-70 members from all walks of life, students to retirees and from all over Greater Sudbury. The Chorus has roots that go back almost fifty years to the Sudbury Philharmonic Society. Ours is a non-profit organization and charitable organization that gratefully accepts tax receipt donations which provides a welcoming venue for people who love to sing together.
Annual Performances
We offer four public performances annually, two in December and two in May; we perform a wide variety of musical styles, including sacred, classical, modern, folk, and show tunes. At our concerts, we often feature soloists such as; Jamie Arrowsmith, Pamela Teed, Amy Godin, Nicole Glover, Dylan Maddix and musical groups like the Young Sudbury Singers, the Jack Broumpton Trio and The Elmer Iseler Singers.
Giving Back
Each year we fund an award for vocal performance at the Sudbury Music Festival (previously known as the Kiwanis Music Festival). We have performed with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, the Penderecki String Quartet, and most recently at the Sudbury Musical Festival’s 75 Anniversary Gala.
Rehearsals
We practice Tuesday evenings September through May, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at St. Andrew’s Place. Singers are welcome to schedule an audition in August and January with our Musical Director, Susan Urquhart: director@belcantochorus.ca; for all other inquiries pertaining to the Chorus email us: info@belcantochorus.ca.
